Four-time All-Star pitcher Corbin Burnes and the Arizona Diamondbacks have finalized their $210 million, six-year contract.

Burnes, the best pitcher on the free-agent market, joins a rotation including Zac Gallen and Eduardo Rodriguez

Burnes entered this offseason as the No. 2 player on The Athletic’s Free Agent Big Board, behind only Juan Soto.

But Burnes chose the Diamondbacks over the likes of the San Francisco Giants, who were thought to be the frontrunners to land the ace, and the Toronto Blue Jays, who were also in the running to land the ace starter, for less money than what Fried received from the Yankees.

The story of Burnes’ sweeper is the latest reason why so many in the industry view him as a pitcher worthy of a long-term commitment.
