Why California’s gas prices increased 41 cents a gallon in February
California drivers are seeing an increase in fuel expenses. The price of a gallon of regular gas rose 41 cents from one month ago. That would amount to about $243 more a year for a car getting average mileage (24.4 miles per gallon) that is driven the average distance (14,489 miles) per year.

California residents pay more for gas than anywhere else in the nation — and fuel prices are steadily rising, according to data from AAA. As of Friday, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California was $4.84, the automobile association said.
According to one forecast, prices at the pump could jump by as much as $0.60 a gallon between now and mid-April.
California has the highest price of gas, with an average of $4.85 per gallon of regular gas. Mississippi has the lowest price of gas, with an average of $2.68 per gallon of regular gas.
