The seal named Chappy, which had been found flat on its stomach on a cold, snow-encrusted street in New Haven, Conn., had an intestinal disease, a necropsy showed.

Chappy was found wandering on Chapel Street in New Haven and rescued by the Mystic Aquarium earlier this month.

Chappy, the gray seal pup that was found on a New Haven street in late February, has died while in the care of Mystic Aquarium, the aquarium posted on Facebook.

The Mystic Aquarium announced on March 3 that Chappy, the baby seal found on a busy Connecticut street on Feb. 16, is dead. The seal was initially found "bright and alert and looking good," but caretakers later discovered that the baby animal had challenging digestive issues.
