The MLK Jr. parade in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood has a rich tradition that started in 1977, making it one of the oldest Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades in the country.

Brevard honored Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday with a parade and other commemorations. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, also known as MLK Day, honors the American civil rights leader's birthday, although it rarely falls on that actual day. King was born Jan. 15, 1929, but the federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January.

While several places will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there will be events held in Miami-Dade and Broward counties to honor the late civil rights leader.
