Frank Vatrano also scored and Troy Terry and Jacob Trouba each had a pair of assists as the Ducks snapped a four-game winless streak. John Gibson made 31 saves.
ANAHEIM -- Mason McTavish and Alex Killorn each scored two goals for the Anaheim Ducks in a 5-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Honda Center on Thursday. Frank Vatrano also scored, and Troy Terry and Jacob Trouba each had two assists for the Ducks (19-23-6), who had lost four straight (0-3-1). John Gibson made 31 saves.
The Anaheim Ducks entered the 2024-25 NHL season with cautious optimism. With a blend of promising young talent and veteran leadership, there was hope this season would mark a step forward in their rebuild.
The Ducks are currently dead-last in the league in goals scored (123) and goals-per-game (2.47). They sit middle of the pack in goals against, but most of that has been due to stellar goaltending from John Gibson and LukáÅ¡ Dostál, who are both top-5 in GSAx per 60. Dostál is third in GSAx (17.0) while Gibson is sixth (14.0).
The Ducks won 5-2 against the Nashville Predators on Saturday while the Kraken lost 4-2 to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. The Kraken will play a unique second game of a back-to-back (SEGABABA), as Monday's game was in Edmonton.
McTavish is capable of more, but they’ve got to put him in the best position to have success. The Ducks do mete out ice time among their forwards more evenly than other teams and while McTavish is averaging 16:24, that ranks seventh.
The Anaheim Ducks are seeking their first winning streak of 2025 when they host the Nashville Predators tonight at Honda Center. The Predators, winners of five straight and seven of their last 10, appear to be on the path to turning things around after an absolutely woeful first half of the season.
