Local college students on Thursday added their voices to calls for increased gun safety in Burlington. Student advocates from the University of Vermont and Champlain College showed their support for a proposed ordinance that would prohibit guns in Burlington bars.

The award is given to the best ROTC program in the Northeast region of the U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC). USACC is comprised of nine separate regions consisting of 275 host programs across the country. The Northeast consists of 42 host universities which include all Ivy League schools and other elite universities.

The University of Vermont said a fire broke Friday around 2:40 p.m. at the Jeanne Mance Hall dormitory. The university said fire and emergency personal responded and put out the fire, and no injuries have been reported.
