Atishi took office as Delhi's youngest chief minister and called on residents to re-elect Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming assembly election. She cautioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party could revoke current benefits such as free electricity and enhanced public services if Kejriwal is not chosen.

Ever since AAP first came to power in Delhi in the winter of 2013 and more so after the 2015 win, Arvind Kejriwal has been both the national face of the party as well as the head of the Delhi government. Now, for the first time, the positions have become split with Atishi now heading the government instead of Kejriwal.

In her first speech after taking charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi praised and thanked her "guru" and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for entrusting her with the responsbility.

Atishi, sworn in as Delhi's new Chief Minister along with five cabinet ministers, urged the public to ensure Arvind Kejriwal's return. She criticized the BJP for conspiring against him and highlighted Kejriwal's contributions.

The new Council of Ministers announced by AAP comprises Sultanpur Majra MLA Mukesh Ahlawat, a new entrant, besides ministers Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain.

Atishi after being named as Delhi Chief Minister had addressed Arvind Kejriwal as her 'mentor' and had specified that she will have a brief tenure in office as assembly elections in the national capital are due in February.

Atishi took oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday following the surprise resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The new cabinet includes existing ministers and will serve briefly before assembly polls in February 2024.
