Emergency crews continue to work on repair the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in New Jersey after a large sinkhole opened on the right shoulder Thursday morning. The New Jersey Department of Transportation said I-80 eastbound in Wharton will remain closed under further notice and drivers are advised to use alternate routes instead.

Construction crews are working around the clock to repair the ginormous hole along I-80 near Exit 40 in Wharton that caused massive traffic delays a day after Christmas.

An eastbound stretch of Interstate 80 in New Jersey will remain closed and detoured “until further notice” but crews are “working around the clock” on repairs after a giant sinkhole swallowed part of the roadway Thursday and wreaked traffic havoc.
