Islanders Ilya Sorokin On Performance Against Rangers ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin had a rough night Tuesday. He allowed five goals on 11 shots before being pulled following 40 minutes of play.

But it did keep the Islanders’ faint hopes alive as they held on for 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night at TD Garden to snap a four-game losing streak. Importantly, goalie Ilya Sorokin was markedly sharper and more aggressive than in Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to the Rangers at UBS Arena — a game in which the Islanders felt they were the better team but could not keep their rivals from consistently crowding the crease.

Sorokin stopped 38 of 39 shots, the only goal allowed deflecting in off his own defenseman’s stick, frustrating the Bruins from the first period to the final whistle. Kyle Palmi
