Siddhant Adlakha of Variety finds the movie overall entertaining, though sometimes torn between its pre-ordained tragedy and the flourishes it wants to bring to the universe. Either way, the flick has a card up its sleeve, the critic writes:

Like this year’s The First Omen, Apartment 7A is a prequel to an iconic horror movie – in this case, Satanic classic Rosemary’s Baby (1968) – that fleshes out, to some degree, the world of its predecessor-slash-successor.

James can shoot with effusive competence (see "Relic"). This film sleepwalks as a routine horror prequel clinging to classic nostalgia, unlike how "The First Omen" nailed the formula mere months ago.
