President Droupadi Murmu through exercise of her powers under Article 356 has ordered the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur. A notification to that effect was issued Thursday.

The Congress has long demanded the imposition of President's rule in Manipur, claiming the BJP's failure to govern has led to social and political chaos. The rule was instated after the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh,
