Torii Kotondo (or Torii Kiyotada VIII) is renowned for his paintings and shin hanga prints of beautiful women. His woodblock prints, superbly carved and printed, are comparable with those of Hashiguchi Goyo and Ito Shinsui .

Urushibara carved and printed his own designs, but he is rarely thought of as a sosaku hanga printmaker, probably because his subject matter was more like that of shin hanga artists. He designed numerous kacho-e prints of formally arranged flowers and wildlife.

Although Shiro's self-made prints lack the refined carving of his shin hanga designs, they have a simplicity and expressiveness that is very appealing. The upward carving strokes and angular lines of Five Story Pagoda at Dusk make it one of Shiro's most dynamic prints.

Similar to the ukiyo-e prints of Sharaku and Toyokuni, Toyonari's simple design has a flat stylized quality rarely seen in later shin hanga. Ota's portrait is much more three-dimensional, employing the Western techniques of perspective and shading.

Toshi was part of the second generation of the Yoshida family to work in the woodblock medium. Both his father, Hiroshi Yoshida, and mother, Fujio Yoshida, were artists and printmakers.Toshi first studied the techniques of woodblock printing in his father's studio, and the subject matter of his earlier prints is reminiscent of Hiroshi's work.
