The City of South Portland is a vibrant Southern Maine community of nearly 27,000 residents and over 1,500 businesses located on picturesque Casco Bay. Incorporated in 1898, the city is located on the southern Maine coast.

The Assessor's Office is responsible for the valuation of all property in South Portland including real estate. The total taxable valuation of real estate for 2024/25 is $6,232,935,750.

We are home to the South Portland High School Red Riots Swim & Dive Team, the Middle School swim team, and our in-house swim teams RipTide and RT+. We are also host to a number of user groups such as special needs groups from local school departments and SoPo's Swim Club.

The Comprehensive Plan Update will be a three-year effort to help define a (new) shared vision for the community, with goals and an action plan for how to realize that vision. Input from all members of the South Portland community is vitally important.

Jan 6, 2024 · South Portland Public Works is dedicated to providing a comprehensive variety of services for the welfare and safety of the South Portland community. We handle tasks such as street and sidewalk maintenance, street sweeping, snow plowing, debris removal from storm basins, and oversight of rubbish/recycling collection.

The Transfer Facility is open to residents of South Portland with a valid permit. When arriving at the Facility (from the access road, turn left at the bottom of the hill), please enter through the gates and stay to the right, following the pavement to the attendant's shack.
